Excerpt: No, I still don't believe that $450 billion number. And the more I see, the more elusive I find that fiction. Ultimately, absolute truth on it might give us a whole new meaning to the term 'actuarial error.' But from what I can tell, $450 billion may be several multiples above even the high end of any reasonable range for the true level of current underfunding among PGBC-covered defined benefit pension plans.
