[Opinion] May 19, 2004 Excerpt: Commissioner Bud Selig said baseball will pay more than $1 million in pensions to 27 former Negro League players, who will have the option of receiving $833.33 per month for four years or $375 a month for life. Baseball previously had established a fund for 85 players who played at least one day in the majors. They receive $10,000 per year.
