I'm looking for information about employee sabbatical programs: who offers them and the policies around them.

There are some articles talking about work/life issues on BenefitsLink, including sabbaticals -- click the "BL" button at the lower-right corner of your message.

Both Intel & American Express offer employee sabbaticals. You might want to contact them. Both have offices in Phoenix, where I know of employees who have used the benefit.

We have a sabbatical program and would be happy to share our policy. Here's my question: Only about 50% of eligible employees have signed up to use our program , now about two years old. After 7 years service, ees can take 8 weeks off, 80% paid by the company. Employee pays the rest with accumulated Earned Time. After five more years, can take another one. Clock doesn't reset on the next five years until ee takes the first sabbatical. No value of unused sabbatical at termination.

We are puzzled? We will do a survey of the eligible non-participants but just wondering what the participation rate is elsewhere?

Do the employees not using the program realize the benefit they are giving up? Are they afraid of coming back to work only to find they no longer have a position?

Perhaps they are planning on taking their sabbatacal later. It may be they want to use their time in conjunction with their spouse and are waiting for the spouse to earn enough time off so they can go together.



Other than teachers and ministers I did not know sabbatacal programs existed. It sounds like a great benefit to me.
