For Family Life and Family AD&D coverage, does your plan document contain provisions for age reductions? If the answer is yes, who does the age reduction pertain to; the employee, spouse or dependent or all? Thank you for your responses.

We have separate carriers for Basic Life and Supp. Life/AD&D Insurance and each of them have a provision contained in their SPDs referring to reduction in coverage due to age. The SPD contains a reduction in schedule beginning at age 65.

As far as I could see, this reduction only pertains to the employee's life and/or AD&D insurance. It pertains to both basic life as well as supplemental life and AD&D.

Last year I discovered that our employees were not having the reductions in coverage applied and thus overpaid their deductions based on the un-reduced coverage amt. We had to do an audit for an entire 2-year period and refund the over deductions! Hope you didn't have that situation!

Hope that helps.
