Full Version: This didn't drive me crazy, but

I posted a question yesterday that involved spreadsheet-style data: Name, Comp, Contribution, etc. for two people.

I could line the data up into columns using spaces, but "Post Preview" shows all the spaces removed. I tried Tabs, but hitting the tab key kicks me out of the post-box. I tried a fixed font (Courier New), but that didn't help.

I could have uploaded a .pdf or .xls, but it wasn't THAT important.

Almost drove me crazy, but it wasn't far, so I walked.

Well, I imagine it's not the simple solution you're looking for, but you could always open up notepad, hit tab, then copy and paste it wherever needed in your post.

Edit: Actually, that doesn't work either. It ignores the tabs just like it ignores the spaces. Bah.

You mean like this? Cavaliere almost had it right. You do want to copy from notepad, but you first want to create the "code" formatting tags by clicking on the "Wrap in code tags" icon above the reply window, then paste between those tags what you have in notepad. It still won't look right on the screen where you paste it unless the font you are using is a fixed spaced font. But it *WILL* look right once you select Post Preview because when it displays the actual posted information, the CODE tags use a fixed space font. To wit:

CODE
Name            Comp            Hire           Benefit
Holmes, S.      1,000,000       1/1/1845       Big
Watson, J.         10,000       1/1/1855       Small
