I am an independent agent in the state of Utah. I have a friend that makes a killing in PA setting up MERP's. Does anyone know of agents doing it in Utah or is it even possible to do since there is such a monopoly in Utah? I am trying to break into this but I dont know if its even possible. Any info would help, THANKS.

MERPs, or Medical Reimbursement Plans have been around for decades, and are commonly referred to as Section 105 plans. They are nothing more than a high deductible (say $1500) and the employer gives back some of the savings to help the employee (say $500). Variations include HSA and Health Reimbursement Arrangement plans.

I would check with the various carriers in your state to find out if they have a high deductible plan available. After that, you will need help with administration, contract, etc. for the side funds.

Good luck.
