My understanding is that stop smoking programs are not an eligible medical expense under an FSA Plan. However, due to OTC, would this be considered eligible expenses? If anyone can direct me to a website that shows that this is or is not an eligible expenses that would be appreciated.

Thanks

According to IRS Publication 502, smoking cessation programs are an eligible expense. Here is a link to there website: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502.pdf

Note that it states non-prescription products to help the cause are not deductible; if is my personal belief that these products should be permitted as reimbursable within a Medical FSA, if the plan allows for reimbursement of any OTC products.

One cautionary note: What do the plan documents say? If smoking cessation programs or OTC products are specifically excluded from the plan, none of the above will apply.
