How do other companies celebrate employee birthdays? We currently host lunch, exchange gifts, and give a monetary bonus for each employee. Our company is growing and we would like to change the policy and would like help in communicating the change to employees.

Patricia:
Our company does not sponsor birthday celebrations. We publish the monthly birthdays in our employee newsletter. Each department does their own planning within their department. Some departments don't do anything and others have a 'pot' that they use to purchase presents or cakes, etc. We do provide all employees a "Birthday" holiday, an extra day off with pay, that must be used in the month of the birthday. It can not be carried over or used in any other month.
Good luck!

Companies that I've worked for have allowed other employees in the dept. to decorate cubicles/offices, and usually we go out for lunch, and everyone shares in the cost of the birthday persons lunch. Some companies have done a cake, or sent a mail message to everyone stating that it's so-n-so's b-day.....
