Got a question...

A teacher that is out for the summer develops a medical condition that pretty much puts her out of action. She has active STD benefits and her policy requires a seven consecutive day waiting period. The teacher has been out for school break since 6/30/02. Can she still apply for her STD benefits during this time? I've gotten two different (contradictory) answers and unfortunately, my information is not specific to this scenario.

Without knowing the details of your STD policy, I would suggest that if the teacher has no loss of income as a result of his/her disability then no benefits would be paid. STD is typically there to replace a portion of a person’s lost income do to an inability to work.
If the teacher normally does not work during summer break, then why would STD be payable?

Check your STD policy.

Actually, that's what I thought also. The teacher is out on summer "vacation" anyway, so she's not missing any work. And she works for an employer that pays for the summer at the end of the previous school year, so she's already been paid for this period of time.
Thanks for the help.
