Does anyone know of a study of survey done that can give some general information concerning SDA's? Looking for basic info.

1) how many plans offer as an option?
2) what are the major issues, liabilities, etc.?
3) industry specific info.

I've searched the board and have come up with very little. Any help appreciated.

I'm not personally aware of any surveys. I'd imagine 404© requirements would be a major issue to consider.

We did a survey published in the August issue of Plan Sponsor, but it may drill down more than you want. The accompanying article ("Seeing Through Brokerage Windows") may help.

The latest Hewitt study has exactly what you're looking for ("Self-Directed Brokerage Accounts and Fund Windows in 401(k) Plans 2001")

The ABA's Joint Committee on Employee Benefits posed the SDA/404© question to the DoL, which may help (http://www.abanet.org/jceb/2001/qa01dol.html, Question 11)

ERIC,

Thanks, where can I get a hold of the first two items you have mentioned? Thanks,
Jim

FYI: The ABA link in my last posting has an extra comma at the end. You need to cut & paste, then delete the comma, in order to jump there.

Hewitt study is on their site, titled as per last posting. I think it's $350(?).

Copy of the McHenry SDA Survey attached, if that helps.

Sent the survey questions. Attached is the populated survey
