While doing some research for my clients and prospects, I came across your request. I am a current Benefits Consultant/Broker who could offer some suggestions in the selection of a candidate:
1. Years of Experience
2. Area of Expertise and References should be requested
3. Ask the average client size and method of plan funding for each category
4. Ask the candidate for a sample client solution they presented recently.
5. Ask also for Insurance carrier or administrator references for the consultant.
6. Have they ever lost a client and then regained them as a customer?
7. What are their service objectives?
8. Do they provide value added services in addition to annual renewal evaluations, reporting, and the occasional employee meeting?
9. Do they have relationships with legal counsel should that become necessary?
10. Discuss fees up front - there are many differences.
That's a quick top 10 list. All brokers are not the same. Feel free to let me know if I you would like to know more about my services.
