Can I calculate a RMD for a participant in a DC plan, using the single life method if I have not received the election form back from the participant specifying which calculation method to use. This plan does not allow for a joint and survivor annuity form of payment. My concern is to get a number to the plan sponsor today or tomorrow so the distribution can by made by 12/31. Any cites?
Thanks

A good plan document will have default provisions about how to calculate required distributions if the elective provisions have failed.
Thanks, Somehow I new that was the answer I was going to get. Guess I will have to delve deeper into the document.

By the way, why such a rush? If this is the first required distribution year, the distribution could be made as late as April of next year (subject to contrary plan provisions). If this is not the first year, what election was used for the prior distribution? Something is amiss here.
The participant's RBD was actually 04/01/99. He did not receive his 1998 and 1999 minimum distributions. I JUST inherited this plan and can't get information from anyone, including the plan sponsor.
