Can a plan have a 6 month and 1,000 hour requirement? I have a takeover plan with that provision!

No, you can't do that. Make sure you are reading it correctly. Sometimes documents will say something like six months of service or 1000 hours in the next 12 month period. (or something like that).
Tom Poje
I think that is possible as long as there is also a provision that someone 1000 hours in the 12 month period is also eligible. (thus you cant keep out someone who works 800 hours in the first 6 months and 800 hours in the next 6 months.)

I've seen what Poje is saying many times.
PLAN MAN
I aslo agree with Tom Poje. The plan document must have additional language that permits an employee who works 1,000 hours in 12 consecutive months to be eligibe for the plan. The plan cannot exclude employees who meet the statutory requirement.
