I want to open new Roth IRA accounts, one as a brokerage acct and one with Mutual fund company. Is this permitted?

I want to start with $2K for me and $2K for my wife. Do they need to be set up seperately or can they be joint accounts?

A maximum of $2K for each spouse can be set up as a single or multiple Roth IRA(s) (even if only one spouse had eligible income). Each account must be for an individual (not joint) and can be set up with any mutual fund or brokerage firm operating under the IRS guidelines.
