I have two pieces of information on the timing of Sep Contributions, One states it must be made by Year End, the second piece states by the employers tax deadline. Can someone help, if it is by the employers tax deadline, say in October, than how does one deal with the 5498 when they are due before the tax deadline.

Thanks

Admin new to Seps.

SEP's can be opened newly or conbtributions added to existing arrangements through the tax filing deadline including extensions granted fpor filing by IRS.

For a number of years now Form 5498 only reports contributions made in the calendar year without regard to the tax year for which the SEP contribution is intended, thus eliminating the problem of coordination of the 5498 filing deadline and the date of contribution activity. I believe that this is discussed within the Form 5498 Instricutiuons.
